2006 Bohemian Vineyard Pinot Noir

As many of us remember all too well, the 2006 winter lasted late and was extremely wet and those rains carried on well into spring. The warm months of June and July were followed by a mild August, which allowed for long hang time for the grapes and an extremely late harvest at the end of October. After a three-day cold-soak, the whole berries were fermented in one-ton bins and punched down twice daily during the early stages. Upon completion, the wine was pressed and then transferred to combination of new and two-year old French oak barrel for eleven months of aging. The 2006 Bohemian Vineyard Pinot Noir was bottled on August 15th, 2007 and released to the public in December 2007.

The 2006 Bohemian Vineyard Pinot Noir is medium to deep red-violet in color with intriguing aromatics of deep cherry and cola nut. The palate is rich and mouth-filling with hints of cherry underlying soft black fruit, herbal tea, and cotton candy flavors. The wine has a strong acid backbone and, even more so, an "acid core" that gives the wine restraint and elegance. This acidity, combined with well-integrated tannins and a balanced French oak finish contribute to a wine that, while enjoyable now, will age beautifully over the next five years.
